Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information SafeNest Senior collects when you visit this website, how it’s used, and what choices you have. It applies to safenestsenior.com and covers visitors from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, which are the regions we write for.
Information We Collect
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Only if you submit the checklist download form or a newsletter signup | To send the requested checklist and, if you opt in, future safety guides. Never collected without an explicit form submission. |
| Home safety quiz answers | When you complete the 4-step risk quiz | Used only to calculate your result and personalize the on-page product table. Stored in your browser’s local session storage — not sent to or stored on our servers at all. |
| IP address (temporary) | When submitting the checklist form | Briefly hashed and held for up to one hour solely to prevent automated spam submissions, then automatically discarded. Not linked to your identity or retained. |
| General browsing data | If analytics tooling is active on the site at the time of your visit | Aggregate, anonymized traffic patterns (e.g., which pages are read) to help us improve content. See “Analytics” below for specifics on when this applies. |
Our Home Safety Quiz — Why It’s Different
Most sites that offer a “risk quiz” quietly send your answers to a server. Ours doesn’t. The 4-step quiz on this site calculates your result and personalizes the product comparison table entirely inside your own browser, using a technology called session storage. That data:
- Is never transmitted to SafeNest Senior’s servers
- Is automatically cleared when you close your browser tab or restart your browser
- Is not shared with any third party, because it never leaves your device in the first place
We’re stating this plainly because it’s a genuine, verifiable technical fact about how the quiz is built — not a marketing claim.
Email Communications
If you submit your email address through the checklist download form or a newsletter signup, we use a third-party email service provider to store your address and deliver messages — the specific provider may change over time as we evaluate different tools, but in all cases:
- You will only receive emails related to what you signed up for (the checklist, and if you opted in, ongoing safety guides).
- Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes you from future communications immediately.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your email address to third parties, including the medical alert companies we review.
Cookies & Similar Technologies
This site uses a small number of browser storage mechanisms:
- Functional session storage — used to remember your quiz result and whether you’ve already seen the exit-intent popup during your current visit, so you’re not shown it repeatedly. Cleared automatically when your browser session ends.
- Affiliate tracking cookies — set by the third-party companies we link to (not by SafeNest Senior directly) when you click through to their site, so they can credit our referral if you make a purchase. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more detail. These are controlled by each company’s own policy, not ours.
- Analytics cookies (conditional) — if a web analytics tool such as Google Analytics is active on the site, it may set its own cookies to measure aggregate, anonymized traffic. We’re disclosing this conditionally and honestly: our current technical setup does not guarantee this is always running, and we would rather describe our practices accurately than overstate what’s in place.
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not affect the core functionality of reading articles on this site, though it may reset quiz progress or dismiss-state for the exit popup.
How We Do Not Use Your Information
- We do not sell personal information to data brokers or third parties.
- We do not share your email address with the medical alert companies we review, even if you later purchase through one of our links — that transaction happens directly between you and the company.
- We do not use your quiz answers for anything beyond generating your on-page result, because we never receive them in the first place.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you (primarily, your email address if you’ve signed up for our list). This includes rights under the UK GDPR for readers in Great Britain, and applicable provincial and federal privacy law for readers in Canada and Australia.
To exercise any of these rights — including a full deletion of your email address from our systems — email hello@safenestsenior.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” We aim to respond and complete verified requests within 30 days.
Children’s Privacy
SafeNest Senior is written for adult caregivers and seniors. This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Data Retention
Email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Quiz answers are never retained by us at all, since they never reach our servers. Hashed IP addresses used for spam prevention are automatically discarded after a maximum of one hour.
Changes to This Policy
If our data practices change — for example, if we add a new analytics tool, live chat widget, or a different email provider — we will update this page and revise the “last reviewed” date below. We do not make material changes without updating this page; there is no separate, hidden version of this policy.
Questions
Who do I contact about this policy?
Email hello@safenestsenior.com for general privacy questions, or editorial@safenestsenior.com for editorial or press inquiries. We aim to respond within 2–3 business days.
How is this different from the Affiliate Disclosure page?
This page covers how SafeNest Senior itself collects and handles data. Our Affiliate Disclosure page covers our financial relationships with the companies we review and how those relationships do (and don’t) affect our rankings. They’re related but answer different questions.
